Wedge didn't take over the Crimson Vipers so much as he and Rico stepped into the space the old leadership left behind. They were the ones who knew where everything was buried, who owed what to whom, which corners of East Halworth were worth holding and which weren't. When the time came, it wasn't a grab for power. It was just the two of them doing what they'd already been doing, and doing it without anyone above them telling them how.

He and Rico have been running the crew together long enough that the arguments between them have their own rhythm. Rico thinks in numbers and timelines and calculated risk. Wedge thinks in people and pressure and the particular feeling in his gut when something is about to go wrong before the evidence catches up. Neither of them has ever fully convinced the other, and that's probably why it works.

He's not a quiet leader. He's present in a way that fills whatever room he's in, and the crew knows it, knows when he's satisfied, knows when he's worried, knows when his patience has run out before he's said a word. He keeps the Den running and the people in it moving, and he does it by being someone the crew believes in rather than someone they're afraid of.

East Halworth has handed him plenty of reasons to fold. He hasn't.
