Vaughan runs alongside Roth as one of the Syndicate's Commanders, and he does it with an ease that tends to put people off their guard. Lean, unhurried, a man who fills a hallway with comfortable conversation after a night that would leave most people silent, he moves through the Syndicate's world as if it fits him perfectly, because it does.

He and Roth operate their own unit the way Brock and Nolan operate theirs, with the same command structure and the same accountability running upward to Roman. The methods sit in a different register. Where Brock and Nolan draw lines, Vaughan and Roth draw different ones, and the results tend to be faster and considerably less clean. Nobody who needs something broken sends for Brock. They send for Roth and Vaughan.

He's good company when the work is done, collegial with the other Commanders, easy to be around in a way that feels genuine rather than performed. That warmth is real. It coexists with everything else he is without contradiction, which is perhaps the most interesting thing about him.

East Halworth has room for more than one way to get a job done. Vaughan has always known exactly which way he prefers.
