SYKES

AFFILIATION: CRIMSON VIPERS

Sykes doesn't take up more room than he needs to. He positions himself at the edges of things, back to a wall, eyes on the door, already tracking whatever the rest of the room hasn't thought to look for yet. He's never somewhere he hasn't chosen to be, and he's never chosen somewhere without a reason. There's no performance to him, no posturing, no noise for its own sake.

He sits just below Wedge and Rico in the Vipers' structure, which is less a rank than a recognition of what he already is: the person the crew's leadership trusts to take the call when things go sideways and there's no time to ask permission. He runs pickups, handles collections, and keeps jobs moving when everything around them is falling apart. When the crew wants to collapse, he's the one who hauls them back to the task, because the task is what keeps them alive.
He's built that trust quietly, consistently, and without drawing attention to the fact that he's doing it.

He has a particular protectiveness over Harper that doesn't announce itself. It's there in everything he does around her, steady and absolute, present enough that Dante sleeps easier on the nights she goes out without him.

East Halworth doesn't produce many people who are exactly what they appear to be. Sykes is one of them.
