ROMAN

AFFILIATION: THE SYNDICATE

Roman Bauer didn't build East Halworth's most dominant organization with his own hands. He built it the way an architect builds a building, from a distance, with other people doing the actual construction. Where his Commanders break bones, Roman moves money, maps, and men, every decision made several steps ahead of the violence it will eventually require.

For Roman, the Syndicate isn't a job his people show up to. It's the entirety of their lives, lived inside the walls of the compound he controls. Commanders answer to him and run their Enforcers beneath them, but the chain of command only holds as long as Roman lets it. He'll go around any one of his Commanders straight to the men under them the moment it suits him, a reminder that nobody's authority in his organization is ever fully their own.

Loyalty earns his Commanders trust, real trust, but it's fear that holds the structure together underneath it. Roman holds them personally accountable for every favour, every judgment call, every life spared on their word, which means loyalty is never free. It's always backed by a cost someone is prepared to pay if it turns out to be misplaced.

Composure is his default and his weapon. He rarely raises his voice, rarely involves his own hands in the violence he orders, and treats most of what happens around him with the same flat, unbothered precision he uses to adjust his cuffs. But there's real anger underneath that calm, and on the rare occasion it surfaces, it's worse than anything he orders from a distance, sloppier, more personal, and far more dangerous to be near.

He trusts almost no one. But he has learned, slowly and at a price, that some judgment is worth betting on. What he chooses to do with that bet, and who he holds to it, may end up costing him more than he expects.
